FOR PARENTS AND TEACHERS

Typing practice for kids and teens, explained for grown-ups.

What your learner will do, what's free, what stays on your device, and what isn't available yet. Everything you'd want to know before saying yes.

A PRACTICE SESSION

Short tasks with a clear finish.

  1. Open a unit

Each unit card says what it teaches. It opens straight into practice, with no introduction screen in the way.

  2. Practice for a few minutes

Most units take 3 to 10 minutes. Mistakes are marked gently and explained. Practice can be paused at any time.

  3. Take the check

A short check without the guide. Passing opens the next units. Not passing just means more practice, never a penalty.

PRIVACY, SPECIFICALLY

What is kept, and where.

WhatWhere it goes
Progress and scoresSaved in the browser on the device you use. Not uploaded to KeyHatch.
What your learner typesChecked in the browser for feedback, then discarded. Raw keystrokes and typed text are not recorded or sent anywhere.
AnalyticsOff until someone allows it, and then only page views of public information pages. Never practice, progress or account pages.
Adult accountsEmail address, display name and practice preferences, held by KeyHatch's backend. No practice text.
AI servicesLearner data is never sent to AI providers.

Because progress lives in the browser, clearing site data or switching computers starts fresh. Read the full privacy policy.

Real skills, labeled practice spaces

Terminal, Git and SQL lessons run in practice spaces built for learning. They can't touch your real files or reach the internet, and they are labeled as practice spaces, not a full Linux computer or the complete tools.

Things we don't do

  • Ads
  • Public rankings
  • Streaks that punish
  • Session recording
  • Selling personal data
  • Speed as the only goal

FOR TEACHERS

Using KeyHatch in a classroom or lab.

Nothing to install

It runs in a current desktop browser. No admin rights needed.

No student logins

The open units need no roster, no emails and no passwords.

Progress stays on each computer

Seat each student at the same computer and browser profile. Shared profiles share progress.

Labs need physical keyboards with the US layout. Run the device check on one computer before class.

See it for yourself in five minutes.

Try unit 1 before your learner does. No account needed.
